Exotic tastes, opulent sights and magical sounds transported guests on a global journey for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Passport To A Cure Dream Gala, Saturday, May 8th at the Kemp Auto Museum in Chesterfield. The Dream Gala raised $900,000 (a Metro Saint Louis/Greater Missouri Chapter best total ever!) through ticket sales, silent auction and Fund A Cure. A high light of the evening was the presentation to Dr. William Danforth II of the “Research Champion Award.” Rarely presented, JDRF Chapters confer this prestigious award to the rare individual who has impacted research. Dr. Danforth is Chancellor Emeritus of Washington University, which has received more than $22 Million in JDRF research funding. Also honored as Diabetes Champions were Ward Klein, CEO Energizer Holdings, Inc. and David P. Hatfield, President and CEO Energizer Personal Care.

Grandparents’ Gift Campaign

Every grandparent loves to spoil their grandchild, and what better way to spoil that grandchild with type 1 than with a CURE for their diabetes? Make sure you (or your parents) have sent in your contribution to the Grandparents’ Gift at this year’s Gala on May 8! Don’t be left off the list of Grandparent Gift donors in the Gala Program! Donors’ names will be listed, along with the name of the grandchild they are honoring with their gift. Donors of $1000 and above will receive special recognition, but all gifts will be recognized and appreciated. Send in your gift today, and be sure to give us the name of your grandchild to be listed with you in the program!

Grandparents Fighting for a Cure

At this year’s Gala, we are working to raise a $50,000 gift from grandparents of people with Type 1. Many grandparents are active donors already, but this is a great way to give diabetes an extra fight this year. Our Grandparents Gift effort is being led by John and Joan Schnoebelen, in honor of their grandson Max Rowe. We are looking for leadership gifts of $5000, $2500, and $1000, or “Gala ticket” gifts of $300, or whatever size gift works for your family. If you have a grandparent who would like to get involved, or even just make an extra donation in honor of their grandchild (grandparent donors will be recognized in the program at Gala), please contact Emily Rapp at metrostlouisvol1@jdrf.org . Don’t miss this chance to put up a fight on behalf of grandchildren with Type 1!
