My name is Max Rowe.
On November 28, 2001, I found out I have juvenile diabetes and it stinks!

My mom and dad told me, rather than just hoping for a cure, I need to try and do something about it. So I am trying to do lots of stuff to find a cure, including max-life.

The idea behind the bracelet is to MAXIMIZE AWARENESS, MAXIMIZE HOPE,and ultimately MAXIMIZE LIFE.

Max's Story

My name is Max Rowe. I am nine years old. I found out I have juvenile diabetes, and it stinks! To see me you wouldn’t know I have diabetes – a disease that strikes kids like me suddenly, making us dependent on insulin for life.

Here is my story. On November 28, 2001, my life changed a whole lot. My mom & dad took me to the doctor because I had been; really hungry, really tired, really thirsty and going to the bathroom a lot. After the doctor gave me a blood test, he told me that my pancreas had stopped working, and I had diabetes. I spent the next week in the hospital to get regulated, and learn how I was going to have to change my life. My doctor told me, from now on I would have to do some things that aren’t a lot of fun, like check my blood 7-8 times a day by sticking my finger, get insulin shots 5-7 times a day, and maintain a strictly controlled diet. This isn’t what I thought I would be doing in first grade.

Diabetes is a concern for my family all day, every day. There is no vacation from it. My dream is to grow up with a good quality of life, get married, have children, and not always fear my hypoglycemic reactions, future complications and potential of my children developing juvenile diabetes. I’ll tell you what my very biggest wish is - doctors could find a cure for juvenile diabetes.

Since my diagnosis, my family and I have been active supporters of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). JDRF is dedicated to finding the cause, treatment and cure for diabetes. Every cent helps bring us one step closer to a cure. I promise I will not stop working until a cure is found!
